Warhammer Empire Tilean Regiment - Barbalini's Spears of Tobaro
So after initially starting them over five years ago, I've finally completed my Empire/Tilean spearmen regiment - Barbalini's Spears of Tobaro.
Lead by reputable mercenary captain and treasure hunter, Gianfrancesco Barbalini, he is accompanied by Orsone, the regiment's bear mascot cum musician. Also present, is the regimental dwarf champion, Kragnor. The regiment hails from the northern Tilean city-state of Tobaro, an isolated, mountainous region with a treacherous craggy coastline, notably the infamous Fools Rocks.
Geographically, Tobaro remains insular, keeping itself from the squabbling fellow Tilean city-states.
The final three additions are an ogre from Satyr Studios that fits the classic Marauder Empire ogre style perfectly, a dwarf from the White Knight/Assault Group range and an Empire spearman from the 90's. I particularly love the dwarf model, in fact so much, I swapped him with another to fit him in the front rank. It's great how most of the Assault Group dwarfs have interchangeable heads.
I plan to continue with the Empire/Tilea theme for now. A long term plan has been another regiment, which would be handgunners. I've spent a long time undecided on uniform colours and figure selection but I might be close to making a start now. Also, there is the possibility of some cavalry in the form of a rather rare group of models. Meanwhile, here is a group shot of both complete Tilean regiments, halberdiers and spearmen.

Outstanding work as always.
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Bill, as always.
DeleteThis is beautiful and love the storytelling !!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I should have included more background, really. It's just finding the time to come up with it all.
DeleteWow, these are beautiful. And the nostalgic feel-goods are definitely welcome. I am particularly fond of the dwarf in the front rank in the first pic.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much! It's great how the Assault Group dwarfs fit in so well with the original Marauder sculpts.
DeleteThat is just superb.
ReplyDeleteSome of the models just absolutley ooze charm.
The older sculpts are just amazing and you have properly done the sculptors proud with your brushwork.
Just so much greatness to absorb.
Thanks Mike! I had a lot of fun selecting who was going to feature in the regiment. Just wish it hadn't taken so long to finish them. I hope this handgunner regiment, when I do start it, doesn't end up being finished in 2031 or something.
DeleteSo much to love here. The bear is a favorite of course. I'm also quite taken with the plume feather colour choice. I would have imagined more of a clash with the red/yellow but it works very well. Maybe because of the blue hue to the armour?
ReplyDeleteThanks Dave. Yeah, the bear gives the regiment it's uniqueness I guess. Some time back, I noticed that in the Uniforms and Heraldry of the Empire book, that plumes were quite often a completely different colour to the rest of the uniform so I decided to risk doing the same with these.
DeleteThis is a beautiful, impressive display of work. Truly enjoyable!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Suber. Much appreciated.
