Citadel Runequest Broo

So, after finishing the diorama, I took a good week or so to decide what's next. I've plenty of ideas lined up but ultimately, decided on some classic Runequest Broo miniatures.

I've been collecting Broo for a number of years now but have never felt it's the right time to actually crack on with them. Originally released back in 1983 (I think!), a lot of these guys featured prominently in Bryan Ansell's legendary chaos army. There are plenty of bizarre looking variants in the range and the two headed guy above is my favourite so I had to paint him first.

The main thing that I had to think about was what skin colour I was going to opt for. I won't be painting all of them in the same skin tone but I decided on a greenish grey for the first few.

Some time back, I painted a classic Asgard Half Troll which will be represented as a beastlord and regiment commander. The plan is to paint a few of the broo and see how I go. Ideally, I'd like to get two or three ranks painted and now I've found a skin recipe, I feel this is pretty doable. I'm already working on more, so expect to see another broo post in a week or so.

  1. I remember those from my dim and distant youth. You have done a great job with the painting.

  2. I must have missed this update. These are really lovely. I love the skin tone you've chosen, and their overall look.
I quite like the old Runequest Broo. I have been collecting a few for a 1st Edition Warhammer army list in the old Forces of Fantasy book, and they have a lot of charm.

    1. Thanks very much, Lee. It took a long time to decide on a general skin tone, hence why they've been boxed up for so long. I'd like to see your take on them. I've just posted some more, including the rare two headed centaur beastman. Do you have thst one? I should have more posted up pretty soon too.

    2. You're right, selecting the right skin tone can be important and give the whole army a unifying feeling without too much uniformity.
I don't have that centaur, he looks lovely and nicely painted. Most of my centaurs are from the later 1980s and are designed for a 1988 era Slaves to Darkness army at some point. My Broo are on my 'soon to do list too"!

    3. Yeah, that's right. I will include the odd figure with a different skin tone; probably one or two albinos as well. Yes, that later centaur range has plenty of cool models, I have a few which will most likely feature in the army at some point.
