Classic Citadel Chaos Army - Group Shot

With the latest phase of my long running Chaos army at an end, I thought it was high time for a group shot.

The last one was over three years ago and it's grown a bit in size since then. It's 20 years now since I first made a start on them and the early ones are some of the oldest paint jobs I have in my cabinets now. With one or two exceptions, everything prior to 1997 has been stripped and repainted.

Chaos Knights including Army General

Chaos Warriors

Chaos Warriors

More Chaos Warriors

There have been a few repaints in this army but I've kept it to a minimum and looking at it, I'd probably only opt to put two or three more through that.

Jaek and Helwud

Chaos Beastman and Broo unit

Chaos Sorcerers with a demon and familiar

Chaos Battering Ram

Giant Demons, Amratha Mangorer and Dematt Ghoulchewer

Flying Gargoyles of Barda

The Chaos Battering Ram isn't exactly usable in a game on that massive base but I thought I'd chuck it in for good measure. You can see more images of it here.

There's still plenty to add in the future; plenty more beastmen and broo, some more gargoyles (Barda and the C48 range), one or two chaos warriors, a chariot another war engine perhaps, the odd demon etc etc....

So now it's time for new projects for the time being. I've lots of ideas planned for the next few months but I need to decide what's coming first. Decisions, decisions....

Helwud & Jaek...Jaek & Helwud...The Chaos Brothers

This will be my final Chaos army instalment for now (with the exception of an imminent group shot) and up next is more foot and mounted personalities - Jaek and Helwud.

I won't go into details that have probably already been said in other blogs regarding their background, save for them being foes of Kaleb Daark, Champion of Malal in the short lived GW comic.

Jaek

Helwud

The mounted versions were originally painted many years ago but after working on the foot versions last week and giving them a different colour scheme, I decided to strip them so to tie them in properly. The horses merely had an armour repaint.

I also stripped another old favourite of mine, Bone Racker (I am NOT going to make a habit of this!) and gave him a repaint.

So next up will be an army group shot; the last one being over three years ago before moving on for now to tackle a new project - of which I haven't fully decided on yet.

Chaos Beastman Update - A Lieutenant for The Beastlord

I've managed to tidy up a few more loose ends this week and have reached the half way point with my 20 man Beastman unit.

The two latest additions are a Kev Adams C27 beastman and a pre slotta Chaos Broo. The former is well suited as the Beastlord's Lieutenant, being large in size and heavily armoured.

I'll tackle the other half of this unit sometime down the line.

There are one or two odds and sods to sort out and then that'll be it for the army for now.

Citadel Chaos Knights - Foot and Mounted

This is my first post of the year having gone through January without one. Not that I haven't been busy painting, mind. It's been a case of working on several figures at once and trying to get a few things boxed off.

So here we have the Chaos Knights from the C33 Adventure Pack Series; each having a foot and mounted variant consisting of a General, Hero, Champion and Knight.

Now the mounted guys were initially painted about 3 years ago but they have been freshened up (armour re highlighted) and had a few details picked out plus a rebase (for some reason I'd painted the bases brown before, which didn't match with the rest of the army). The versions on foot have been waiting a long time to get done.

I've always been a huge fan of characters mounted and on foot and these four have been among my favourite sculpts for the past 30 years or more. The armour design (by The Perrys) is so characterful.

Chaos General

Chaos Hero

I spent a long time tracking all these guys down back in the 90's before the days of eBay. They never made the transition to the 1988 catalogue so became increasingly difficult to get hold of.

Chaos Champion

Chaos Knight

I'm kind of working on getting all chaos army stuff wrapped up over the next week or so. I'll be resuming it in a while but there are other projects I want to make a start on.
